Hollister

Hollister® Incorporated is an American company that was founded in 1921 by a 23-year-old named John Dickinson. Beginning as a printing company, Hollister®’s offerings evolved to include medical products, but it wasn’t until the 1960s that they started getting involved in the ostomy space. Their involvement in continence products came thereafter, and they now own manufacturing and distribution facilities on 3 continents. Hollister®’s company values include Dignity of the Person, Integrity, Service, and Stewardship. Their mission is “to help healthcare professionals deliver better products and services, and to make life more rewarding and dignified for those who use their products”.

The company is privately held and employee owned. In 2019, Hollister® entered into a “new relationship” with an ostomy and urology supplier named Genairex, who had itself purchased Peco Medical, a well-known manufacturer of low-cost catheters in 2016. Following the acquisition, Peco Medical shut down their urology division – creating a hole in the market for quality, low-cost catheters.

The earliest FDA approval for Hollister® branded intermittent catheters that we could find dates back to 2002 with the Incare Intermittent Catheter. In the application, this catheter listed several catheters by Conveen, Mentor, and Rusch as predicates, making it likely that this was the company’s first entry into the catheter market. Since then, they’ve rapidly acquired market share and are considered one of the top catheter manufacturers in the world. Their flagship product is the VaPro line of catheters.

Hollister®, like other manufacturers, offers personalized support through their Secure Start Services. This program offers information on insurance, products, suppliers, connections to organizations, access to nurses, and educational information. Unlike other programs, this one seems to match you with a real live person – a Consumer Service Advisor. These services are provided even if you don’t use Hollister® products! Their website also features a learning center and access to quick educational tools like PDFs and videos.
